A poem by me.. this a poem form of Nehru’s tryst with destiny [link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tryst_with_destiny]
As the clock struck midnight
It was the end of the fight
In this speech he was afraid of making a mistake,
it was about a pact they had made with fate.
Then the prime minister started the speech
A great lesson of freedom it was to teach
“The people of India have made a tryst with fate,
And now, the time comes, a little late.
As the world is sleeping, we unleashed a new age
India shall wake up to life at this stage
Responsibility comes with freedom and power
the future beckons, the past is over.
We have endured pain and strife
but India shall rise to a new dawn of life.
Our pledge is to wipe all sufferings and tears
our wish is to banish all inequality and end all fears
our work is to fight for freedom and equality
and end poverty and ignorance battling every calamity.
This not a ladder for fame,
it’s a test of faith and confidence, not a blame game
the slumber and the struggle, the traces of the past still creep
but history has begun anew, we have woken from a deep sleep
a star, a star of freedom and liberty, has risen for all to see
illuminating everything, the world, Asia and every small tree
the storm has gone, and isn’t feared,
the remaining clouds have to be cleared.
A salute to the father of the nation, the man who made the torch glow,
the torch of freedom, liberty and humility that not even the gale could blow
hundreds of unknown faces given up their life,
they must be also remembered for all their strife
alas, boundaries have also been made,
don’t let the memories of our brothers and sisters fade.
India: the prosperous, democratic and progressive nation,
giving every individual and equal ration
we are on the verge of a bold advance, a country destined to be great
we have to make this nation as intended by fate
to India, our motherland, the ancient the eternal and the new,
we pay it in services the homage it is due
JAI HIND” he ended in jubilation, he was on the top of the world,
India was free now, its wings were unfurled
the tryst with destiny
the pact with fate
had been fulfilled on this date.
